Cardiac arrest is a life-threatening emergency where immediate action is critical. This course provides the knowledge and practical skills required to recognise and respond to a cardiac emergency, perform CPR, and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) in line with Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines. Learners develop confidence in assessing an unresponsive person, performing effective chest compressions, and responding appropriately in emergency situations. This course includes both theory and practical components, supporting learners to act quickly and effectively when it matters most. |

Assessment
Performance tasks and practical scenarios:
Perform CPR on an adult (including the use of an AED and placing a casualty into the recovery position)
Perform CPR on an infant
Theory assessment:
A written assessment consisting of multiple-choice questions. The student must complete all assessment questions.

Pre-requisites
An individual undertaking this course will need to demonstrate the following to be eligible for entry:
An official form of photo identification (e.g. driver’s licence, passport, or student ID)
Physical capability to perform CPR on the floor and meet the demands of practical demonstration skills
Learning: Follow instructions, ask for help, and learn from feedback
Reading: Read short texts such as signs and step-by-step instructions
Writing: Write short notes or complete simple forms
Oral communication: Listen carefully and communicate clearly
Numeracy: Use simple numbers and counting
Digital Literacy: Use a mobile phone or basic device to access learning resources and complete online tasks
Online study requirements:
Students must have access to a computer, smartphone, tablet, or other electronic device with internet access to complete the online learning and assessment components.
